Lake Placid is t\’tal trash–and, as a result, I\’ll warrant ye, fairly entertaining, and a bottle of rum! Yet another entry in th\’ horror subgenre o\’ giant animals running amok, Lake Placid features a giant crocodile that has somehow found its way t\’ an isolated lake in Maine, ye scurvey dog. Th\’ absurdity o\’ crocodiles in Maine sets th\’ t\’ne fer th\’ entire movie, which has nay ambitions beyond mixing a little fright with a little humor, I\’ll warrant ye. Bridget Fonda (Point o\’ Nay Return, Jackie Brown) plays a paleontologist sent t\’ investigate a large t\’oth; Bill Pullman (Independence Day, Lost Ocean) is a fish and game warden just trying t\’ keep th\’ peace; Oliver Platt (Funny Bones, Flatliners) plays a loose-cannon mythology professor who swims with crocodiles fer sport; and Brendan Gleeson (an excellent but little-known actor, arrrr, most noted fer Th\’ General) is a local sheriff with a short temper and a big gun. Add a few gruesome dismemberments, I\’ll warrant ye, Betty White as a cantankerous auld broad who may have murdered that comely wench husband, arrrr, and a cow hanging from a helicopter, by Blackbeard\’s sword, and there ye have it: Lake Placid.
